What all you'll need?
- Whole Wheat Flour - 1 cup
- All purpose flour - 1 cup ( I used double fiber all purpose flour)
- Active Dry Yeast - 1 packet(2 1/4 teaspoon)
- Warm Water - 1/4 cup
- Warm Milk - 3/4 - 1 cup
- Egg - 1 ( I used organic brown egg)
- Clarified Butter/ Ghee - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Honey - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
Let's cook it!!
- Preheat oven to 375 degree F. In the meantime. grease a square baking pan with oil or butter.
- Mix yeast and 2-3 teaspoons of sugar in 1/4 cup of warm water and allow it to sit for about 3-4 minutes.
- Add half cup of flour and remaining portion of sugar to the yeast water mixture(Step 1). Mix it thoroughly to form a semi-thick batter. Let it rest until it's foamy.
- Add clarified butter, honey, egg, salt and rest of the flour to the foamy batter (Step 2). Knead it well to form a soft dough by adding milk as required.
- Place the dough on a a greased bowl (Spread some butter evenly on the bowl) and let the dough rest at room temperature until it doubles in size. It might take up to 2 hours.
- Once the dough is doubled, punch it down and transfer it to a board. In order to avoid the dough being sticky to the board, sprinkle some flour on the board before transferring the dough.
- Divide the dough into 8-9 equal portions and roll it into different round shaped buns.
- Place the buns on the greased baking pans and let it rise until double in size. It may take up to half an hour to rise.
- Once its double in size, place them in the preheated oven at 375 degree for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, reduce the temperature to 350 degree F and bake them for another 10 minutes.
- If the bun is golden brown in color, it's ready to be served.
