Wheat Besan Laddu

Laddu is a popular sweet in India. You'll come across different kinds of laddus in varying sizes and shapes from different parts of the country. I like all versions of it:) However, I prefer to make laddu which is more of a healthier version at home. This is my experiment on a healthier version of laddu which incorporates different flours and shredded coconut. I have used jaggery/brown sugar for sweetness and a relatively small amount of ghee/clarified butter for moist laddus.

Cook Time:
15-20 Minutes

Ease of Cooking:
Easy

What all you'll need?

  • Whole Wheat Flour - 1/2 cup
  • Chick Pea Flour/Besan - 1/2 cup
  • Semolina Flour/Sooji/Rava - 1/2 cup
  • Ghee/Clarified Butter - 3 tablespoon
  • Shredded Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Powdered Jaggery or Dark Brown Sugar - 1 -1.5 cups
  • Cardamom Powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Saffron strands - 3-4
  • Warm Milk - 6 tablespoons
  • Roasted Cashewnuts - 3 teaspoons
  • Raisins - 3 teaspoons

Let's cook it!!

  1. Dry roast all the flours (Whole Wheat Flour, Chick pea Flour,Semolina Flour) and shredded coconut until it emits a nice aroma and turns light brown in color.
  2. Add saffron strands to warm milk in a bowl and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
  3. Transfer the roasted flour mixture to a plate and add ghee/clarified butter, dark brown sugar/jaggery,cardamom powder, cashew nuts and raisins. Mix everything well.
  4. Add milk as required to the mixture to get the right consistency for making round balls shaped like laddus.
