How to make Paneer a.k.a Cottage Cheese at home?

Paneer/Cottage Cheese is relatively simple and cheaper to make at home. Further more, it's fresh and tastier than the store purchased ones. It gives good taste to the recipes made of paneer.

Cook Time:

10 Minutes

Ease of Cooking:

Easy

What all you'll need?

  • Milk - 1/2 Gallon (Whole or 2%)
  • Lime Juice - 5 tablespoon

Let's cook it!!

  1. Boil milk in a heavy bottom pan. You have to stir it occasionally so that milk won't burn at the bottom of the pan.
  2. Add lime juice to the boiling milk. Now, you will see the milk solids separating out from the whey. Turn off the stove and let it sit for a couple of minutes.
  3. Strain the mixture through a muslin or cheese cloth so that the liquid will drain through and filter out the solids.
  4. Tie both ends of the cheese/muslin cloth to form a tight knot and hang it over the kitchen sink for about 30-45 minutes.
  5. Take out the firm solid paneer from the cheese cloth and cut it into small pieces and use it for making delicious dishes.
