How to prepare Garam Masala?

Garam (Hot) Masala or the spice-blend is an essential ingredient of all Indian dishes. It basically adds the flavor, aroma and richness of the spices in to the food. It can prepared using a different combination of spices. It can be prepared in bulk and stored in a freezer so as to preserve its freshness.

What all you'll need?

  • 3 tbsps coriander seeds
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp black peppercorns
  • 1 tsp black cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp dry ginger
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp crushed fenugreek leaves
  • 1/2 tsp crushed bay leaves
  • 1/2 tsp dried Turmeric


Let's cook it!!

  1. Roast all ingredients in a skillet in low flames until it they get dark brown to dark in color. Make sure that you don't burn the spices.
  2. Grind them together in a grinder (preferably a coffee grinder since they are small in quantity)
  3. Store any extra unused portion in an air tight container in a freezer.
